Forrest’s epic journey is filled with historical and technical mishaps. For instance, during a scene where Forrest runs past a barbershop, a TV announcer mentions Jimmy Carter suffering from heat exhaustion in 1979, even though Forrest’s journey starts in 1976, before Carter was president. Additionally, Forrest’s meeting with JFK in 1963 is contradicted by the fact that the Associated Press only announced their All-America team after JFK’s assassination. And in a Fourth of July scene set in 1976, the fireworks display shows the Statue of Liberty after its 1986 restoration!

From Vietnam scenes filmed on a South Carolina golf course to anachronistic logos and inconsistent zip codes, Forrest Gump is full of charming errors. These range from Forrest’s leg braces allowing him to run, to a letter from Apple using a font that wasn’t in use until years later.
